Interest-Free Business Financing in Mizoram

Only the cooperative sector. India has no Islamic bank SME desks because India has no Islamic banks. Interest-free credit cooperatives, such as Al-Khair (Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi) and Janseva (twelve states), lend to members with one-time service charges instead of interest, and Janseva runs an interest-free SHG microfinance program. The Sahulat network mapped 51 affiliated entities, 122 branches, and over 400,000 beneficiaries across 14 states as of 31 March 2025.

Our database lists no interest-free business financing for Mizoram. That reflects the market honestly: the cooperative societies we track operate in specific registered states, and no nationwide interest-free business lender exists in India.

You become a member first: societies require share purchases (typically a percentage of the loan value), an active account history, and guarantors. Charges are one-time service charges rather than recurring interest; Al-Khair's published slabs run 8% one-time for 3-month loans and 16% to 18% for 8-to-12-month loans, plus GST. Read the numbers before signing, exactly as you would anywhere else.

It is debated. The societies defend fixed service charges as cost recovery, not interest; strict qard hasan scholarship objects to any charge that scales with loan size. The sector's honest comparison point is the informal moneylender market at 60% to 120% a year. We surface the debate rather than settling it; review the fiqh position you follow.

Check the registration: state cooperative acts or the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act 2002 (Al-Khair: MSCS/CR/136/2002; Janseva: MSCS, March 2010). Remember that cooperatives are not banks, publish no Shariah board reviews, and their deposits carry no DICGC insurance.
